Criterion Games and EA have been working hard keeping the third installment in the Hot Pursuit series of Need For Speed under wraps. Unfortunately, thanks to a pre-E3 video from GameTrailers TV (link, see at 8:04) the title has leaked – Need For Speed: Hot Pursuit Race. Pictures below from EA’s E3 booth confirm the news is real:

This goes inline with rumors back in March, posted on NFSCheats.
The countdown timers have begun on both Electronic Arts E3 webpage as well as Criterion Games website. Only 3 days, 8 hours away from finding out all the details on the next installment of the Need For Speed series. The current rumor is that the game will be released between October and December this year, possibly just in time before Christmas?
Be sure to watch the video feed live at June 14 – 2pm PDT (5pm EST) on GameSpot’s EA Press Conference webpage for all the details.

According to the Twitter account for Criterion Games, it seems that the current Need For Speed project that they are developing will be revealed at the E3 Expo in Los Angeles taking place June 15-17, 2010. With over a year of development and rumors of screenshots coming soon, we can expect great news soon.
Quoted: Soon………..all will be revealed……..in the City of Angels…….! (City of Angels is referring to Los Angeles where the E3 Expo is being held)
Apparantly there are two more NFS titles in the works, which are planned to be released in Q4 2010 and Q1 2011.
The rumor is that this year’s Need For Speed title will be the third from the Hot Pursuit series, possibly a remake of the classic NFS3 Hot Pursuit from 1998 (the first of the series to have cop cars chasing you). According to the name, we should expect the return of police pursuits. If we previous rumors are true, this might be the title Criterion Games is working on, who are the creators of the successful Burnout-series.
The second game is planned for release in the 1st quarter in 2011. As it seems, it’ll be a successor of NFS Shift and possibly carry the name Need For Speed Shift 2. Given the success of NFS Shift this seems to be a logical step from Electronic Arts.
As soon as we have more information, we’ll keep you updated.

Further details have been announced regarding new upcoming Need For Speed titles. Need For Speed: Criterion Games 2010 is currently being developed by Criterion Games (developers of EA’s Burnout franchise). Need For Speed: Black Box 2011 is the “secret” game coming out being developed by Black Box (an Electronic Arts company). Judging by the titles, they will be released in 2010 and 2011 respectively, to me that seems a bit early to let the public know since three other games are already scheduled.
The box artwork has been revealed for NFS: Shift, NFS: World Online, and NFS: Nitro, see below.
