Need For Speed Porsche - FAQ
Questions big and small, we have a database of common problems, questions, and answers on call for you to browse through.
Question: Is there a place where I can race online with other people?
Answer: Yes, it is called EARacing.Com and there you can hook up with other players and teams. Fight to the finish and see who can rack up the most points!
Oh, and if you see a guy who appears to be a bit crazy there who keeps challenging everyone to races, drop him a hello. That's Matt, our little PU addict.
Recently another solution has come into play with the development of the NCOPS system. That is short for the Need For Speed Community Online Play System. It allows players to match up against each other for tcp/ip races. You can find out more information by clicking the link here..
Question: Where is a good place to get an editor for cars?
Answer: Try the wonderful creation called ZModeler here.
Question: I know EARacing has stats, but is there a better place I can get more detailed ones?
Answer:Absolutely! Deadline Racers is a great place to get up to date stats on your races and other competitors.
Question: Problems with nVidia cards like crashing on Normandie or something?
Answer: GET A VOODOO CARD!!! LOL, j/k.. that would be the PhaT FiX. :D Anyway, download the newest drivers and also do this:
Ok, these are general solutions to problems usually encountered by people using GeForce cards, one or more may help you too.

Ok, the only thing is, I thought it was the other way around on the headlights, but I may be misrembering. One of the most important things is to disable/turn off any unnecessary programs running in the background, I use a program called 'StartUp Cop' that allow me to create startup 'profiles' for different situations, when I want to play Porsche Unleashed, I have to choose its profile and reboot, it turns off everything except what I have specified (specifically, Norton, systray, explorer, and MSWheel, no more 'Task Scheduler' or any other unwanted program running in the background).
Also, nVidia has posted new drivers at their page on June 6 if you have one of their cards. Good luck.
Question: How do I update NFS5 to the latest version?
Answer: Start up the game, go to Multiplayer and then "Internet" NFS5 will automatically check for updates every time you click on this button. If you need an update, it will tell you, click "Ok" and the game will exit to the desktop and the EA Updater will automatically start up (sometimes you may need to give it a few minutes, also note that some broadband connections don't always work with the updater. Dialup is the sure way to go.) If it doesn't update, we have an update on our site, but it only updates the files, not the registry entries. (I'll try making a reg file to fix this soon.)
Question: I run win2k|xp and the game locks up while loading, what do I do?
Answer: NFS:PU will in most cases hang on the "Loading" screen, eating up all the memory until it crashes.
You can delete gimme.dll from the game directory but then you are unable to play network or internet, and it might not solve the problem. Try to alter your page file settings. On my win2k with 256Mb I have set it to min=300, max=300. If it still hangs on the loading screen, try to set it even smaller. Regardless of what people might tell you about the paging file, to solve this problem on win2k and winxp, you need to limit it's size. It looks like the more memory you have, the smaller the page file has to be.

Microsoft released a Windows Update patch in April of 2002 that adds compatibility support in Windows XP for NFS5. The patch is titled "Windows XP Application Compatibility Update, April 2002" and is 898kb.
Question: Is there a way I can listen to the game's music without playing the game?
Answer: Sure, just pop your game cd into any audio cd player and listen to track two or higher.
Question: How do I do a 360 in factory driver mode?
Answer: Race at full speed heading towards the cones... try to keep to the left. As soon as you get to the first cones, turn hard right, and engage the handbrake. Once you are facing the other way (180 degrees) turn the opposite way, and release the handbrake. Once facing forward again, straighten out the steering.
