Motor City Online - FAQ
Questions big and small, we have a database of common problems, questions, and answers on call for you to browse through.
Question: What is this I hear about an online fee?
Answer: Electronic Arts has decided to charge a fee to play this game. It is $10.00/month. The nfs community opposes this decision. If you really want to play the game, get it. There is a one month free trial of the online play of the game. At least it gives you the opportunity to back out of it. However you'd have wasted $30.00.
Question: Where can I find more information on the game?
Answer: You can checkout the official website by following this link to http://www.motorcityonline.com.
Question: Does it support MIP-mapping?
Answer: It doesn’t have an option to specifically turn on MIP-mapping, but if you have an NVIDIA video card, you can turn on MIP-mapping in the Detonator Options, or instead just turn on anti-aliasing, which reduces the need for MIP-mapping.
Question: How confusing is it for someone like me who doesn't know anything about car setup; can I learn about it in the game other than through trial and error?
Answer: At first if you are a newbie at hot rods, like me, you might make a few mistakes buying the wrong parts or not knowing what improves your car but after a while and asking others in the chat, you can get the hang of it.
Question: Are there pedestrians? And do they give up some blood for the camera?
Answer: Yes, there are pedestrians, but they always seem to get away before you get to ‘em :).
Question: Have the developing team been influenced by the NFS community?
Answer: Definitely. They have totally improved the physics/parts engine, server lag, and they are always taking in suggestions from the beta testers. They also believe that certain features like customizing paint jobs are something that they HAVE to put in because many fans wanted that option in previous NFSes.
Question: Why aren't the cars more detailed? Other games and especially NFS designers often make 5K poly cars that look perfect. Take a look at Gran Turismo 3 which has that kind of detail.
Answer: This game ISN'T Gran Turismo 3, and is meant to run on low end systems. Most people who will buy this game are casual gamers; the ones who buy their software from Wal-Mart. High selling games usually have low system requirements (Sims, StarCraft, Diablo II, and Who Wants to be a Millionaire?). Also, the car models look fine. They are just as high poly or maybe higher than NFS5, but the car's textures are what make the cars not look too great, but only in close ups.
Question: Are there as many parts for smaller capacity engines as for big cube engines? I would rather do up a six cylinders than an eight...
Answer: Yep.
Question: In the tracks, are there many things you can run over/trough? Are there many different routes?
Answer: Oh yeah. There is one track which has a mail box on the side of the road; I ran over it and it went flying and letters started to fly out of the mailbox. You can also run over fire hydrants, signs, and knockdown telephone booths among other things.
Question: Are there Turbochargers?
Answer: They label them as Superchargers. I guess it's the same thing, right?
Question: Is there a 1964 Ford Galaxie 500 in the game?
Answer: Yup.
